On a SONY VAIO AIO, with TV tuner, I cannot get the media center to recognize the presence of the tuner. The TV tuner itself can receive TV signals, but it is not recognized when I try to set up the Media Center.

Trouble with driver for TV tuner I don't suppose anyone can help - I have a VAIO VGN AR31M and stupidly deleted the pre-installed AverMedia TV tuner card driver. I think I've managed to re-install it from the AverMedia website but can't seem to activate it / make it work.

VGX-XL301 / VGX-XL302

The Sony Vaio VGX-XL301and VGX-XL302 originally shipped with:

1x AVerMedia Hybrid H/W MPEG Card, A16E (DVB-T / PAL / SECAM / FM), and

1x AVerMedia Hybrid H/W MPEG Card, A16E_2 (DVB-T / PAL / SECAM / FM).

The difference between the A16E and the A16E_2 is that the A16E (which is installed in the expansion slot above the A16E_2), has other functions connected to it, such as the front panel audio / video inputs.

If you wish to keep all the original functions you should only replace the A16E_2 card.

Both cards are hybrid, meaning they are able to pick up digital (DVB-T) and analog (PAL) signals through a TV aerial.

Note: Analog (PAL) is no longer available through a TV aerial in many regions, (including the UK)/

Unfortunately all of the VGX-XL series TV Tuners are PCI bus expansion cards, rather than the newer, more popular PCI-e (PCI express), and therefore can only be replaced with either similar PCI bus expansion cards or a USB solution.

The VGX-XL301 and VGX-XL302 TV Tuners can be replaced with most PCI cards including DVB-T (Terrestrial TV), DVB-T2 (Terrestrial HDTV), DVB-S (Satellite TV) and DVB-2 (Satellite HDTV) and all available combinations.

Note:HDTV channels will depend upon hardware and you may find that you'll need to purchase a better graphics card to successfully decode the HD content. Some examples of suitable cards are the Radeon HD5450, HD6670 and HD7750 low profile cards. For more information see Video / Graphics Card (GPU)

I currently receive SDFREEVIEW UK Digital TV channels (DVB-T) through a TV aerial to my AVerMedia A16E card and Satellite SD/HDFREESAT digital TV channels (DVB-S1/S2) through a satellite dish connected to my TSB8920 PCI DVB-S2 TV Tuner Card

I then use Windows 7 media centre to watch TV, it lists all the Terrestrial and Satellites channels together in one single TV guide. This set up works great for me, I get loads of channels and all free :)

Note: I use a HD6670 graphics card in my VGX-XL301
