The manga series may have already ended, but fans are in for one more special treat as the popular 2017 anime movie, 'Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry,' gets released in both Blu-ray and DVD later this year.
Updated December 14, 2018: Added number of episodes. The Fairy Tail Season 3 release date has finally been officially confirmed by Fairy Tail manga creator Hiro Mashima! The anime began airing in Japan on October 7, 2018. The English dub from Funimation premiered on October 29, 2018. Enter the Dragon Cry, a magic staff rumored to possess the power to destroy the world. For years it’s been safely guarded in the Kingdom of Fiore until Zash, a traitor of Fiore, steals it and delivers it to Animus in the Kingdom of Stella. Now it’s up to the gang to infiltrate the Stella Kingdom and retrieve the staff. It seems like it should be an easy job, but what they uncover. Presented in Japanese with English subtitles on August 14 and in English dub on August 16 and 19.
First released in Japanese theaters on May 6 of this year, the said movie is reportedly set before the series' final story arc. During a panel at the MCM (Movie Comic Media) London Comic Con earlier this year, director Tatsuma Minamikawa shared how he had wanted to watch the movie on its opening day, but due to the overwhelming response of the Japanese fans, he failed to get himself a ticket.
Producer Yohei Ito further explained that the movie came years after the television series ended, hence making the fans excited to see their favorite 'Fairy Tail' characters animated once more. He also said that the movie was a celebration of the final arc of a successful manga series that ran for more than a decade.
The movie was shown in limited theatrical screenings worldwide. An English-dubbed version was also released for North American audiences from Aug. 14–19, courtesy of Funimation.
'Fairy Tail; Dragon Cry' serves as a prologue to the manga series' final arc and is based on an original 200-page story written by the manga creator himself, Hiro Mashima. Familiar characters from the titular wizard guild have gathered together to retrieve the Dragon Cry — a magical artifact previously enshrined within a temple in the Kingdom of Fiore that has the ability to call forth the light of the dragons to destroy the entire world.

The said power has been stolen by a traitor named Zash, and it was subsequently delivered to the King of an isolated island located in the Kingdom of Stella. It is now up to Natsu, Lucy, and the rest of the Fairy Tail Guild to retrieve this artifact and thus keep the world safe. The outcome of this mission would eventually lead to the events in the manga series' final arc.
'Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry' will be released in Blu-ray format on Friday, Nov. 17 and on DVD rental on the following Friday, Nov. 24.

After the end of the second season, fans of the anime series Fairy Tail had only one wish as soon as possible to know the release date of the third season. By the way, Fairy Tail is one of the most popular and top anime series, which have become truly cult nowadays. Anime is filmed on the manga by Hiro Masima and produced by such famous studios as A-1 Pictures and Satelight. The series pleases its fans from October 2009 till present.

Storyline
The main role is still the same cool guild, the main members of which disappeared with the Island of Heavenly Wolf in the abyss of the ocean and back in seven years. In the guild and in all of Fiore, the situation changed dramatically and Fairy Tail stuck at the very bottom of the list of “Top 50 Magic Guilds Fiore.” To regain its glory and improve the economic situation in Fairy Tail, Master Makarov decides to take part in the Great Magical Games!
The previous season stopped at this stage. Even before the competition, Fairy Tail distinguished itself by its original approach. They are the only ones who released at the same team two teams from the guild: team A and team B. Of course, only the strongest participated in the competition. However, as usual, the event in which Fairy Tail participates can not be calm.
The last series of the second season was released on March 26, 2016. The season was closed by the beginning of the Avatar arch, where Natsu and Lucy are the main characters are going to rally the guild, whose members are all over the country. But on their way the heroes met villains. The second season was completed unexpectedly for the audience.
As a producer says, the anime company took a break to implement another project, which is closely related to the Fairy Tail. If earlier it was a secret, it is already known today that the team was working on the film Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry, which the release date is already known. The release of such a big anime requires a lot of creativity, and a break was made to rest.
The third season will begin with the continuation of the Avatar arch, which ended the previous one: the adventures of Natsu after his annual training.
